Und zwar gibt es Gründe, warum das so wichtig ist:

„Almost a billion total devices have been sold, and 1.5 million devices are activated per day—but how did Google get here? With this level of scale and success, you would think there would be tons of coverage of Android’s rise from zero to hero. However, there just isn’t. Android wasn’t very popular in the early days, and until Android 4.0, screenshots could only be taken with the developer kit

Und:

„The problem now with the lack of early coverage is that early versions of Android are dying. (…) Android could be considered the first cloud-based operating system. Many features are heavily reliant on Google’s servers to function. With fewer and fewer people using old versions of Android, those servers are being shut down“

Das ist auch die Crux, wenn man Android-Apps entwickelt: Sofern man seinen Quellcode nicht dauernd irgendwie sichert, sind alte APKs eigener Programme nicht mehr erhältlich und auch nicht mehr zugänglich(!). Wenn die APK-Namen ebenfalls nicht geändert werden, das geschieht eh meist selten, da man dann den kompletten Play Store-Eintrag neu erstellen müsste, gibt es alte Programme einfach nicht mehr. Mir ist bisher nichts bekannt, wo das so war und das hat nicht wirklich nur Vorteile…

Ich bin nicht mit jedem Satz konform gewesen in dem Text, aber das muss ich auch nicht. Insgesamt ist der Eindruck hängengeblieben, dass man als Leser & Technik-Freak froh sein kann, dass dieser Job das mal festzuhalten von Ars Technica und nicht jemand anderem übernommen wurde. Sollte jedoch ähnliches Material bekannt sein, bitte ich darum mir die Links zu senden, damit ich das hier miteinfügen kann.
